"Bluff Shelter" is a thoughtfully designed retreat that integrates biophilic principles and the natural beauty of the Ozarks. Composed of two cabins connected by an indoor/outdoor dogtrot pavilion, the structure is sheltered by a monumental bluff-like limestone gesture, blending seamlessly with its surroundings. This family retreat, designed for private use, emphasizes mindfulness and connection to nature, offering expansive views, natural materials, and sensory-rich environments that promote well-being and tranquility. By reimagining the traditional cabin, "Bluff Shelter" provides a serene sanctuary where guests can disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with themselves, with family, and the timeless beauty of the Buffalo River landscape.

In the design of "Bluff Shelter," the materiality is vital, serving not only as the physical foundation but also as a narrative thread that weaves together the natural beauty of the Ozarks with the retreat's architectural integrity. The selection of materials is driven by a deep respect for the surrounding landscape via biophilic design principles while also embracing the concept of 'wabi-sabi' to celebrate the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time. This approach ensures that every detail, from the rough-hewn stone to the weathered wood, contributes to a sensory-rich environment that fosters a deep connection with nature and the essence of retreat.
